Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer

It's spring in rural Pennsylvania, and we readers become witnesses to a changing world through the journal of high school student, Miranda. The journal begins as the world takes to lawn chairs to watch the predicted collision of a meteor with our moon. It was supposed to be just interesting entertainment in the night sky. Unfortunately, the scientific predictions were a little off. The meteor hits the moon so hard that it's knocked into an orbit much closer to the earth. This brings on a string of disasters which seem to threaten human existence--first tsunamis, then earthquakes, and finally the increased pull of the moon's gravity brings old volcanoes to life. Crops fail as ash from volcanoes blocks out the sun. Miranda's journal follows her family as they struggle with hunger, staying warm without gas and electricity, and dealing with the death of loved ones. Readers will definitely see the gifts of normal everyday life in new light.
